5 minutes with …. Kevin Mundy
July 10, 2023
Introducing …. Kevin Mundy, Tour Manager. Kevin has recently come back from managing one of our trips to the Sahara!!
Please tell us a little bit about yourself
I worked in education for 35 years including working in Japan and Turkey. I have always enjoyed visiting new places in the UK and abroad. I am always happy on top of a hill or mountain. I also enjoy a bit of sea kayaking.
How long have you been with Different Travel? How did you get involved?
I’ve worked with Different Travel for about 5 years. Initially working as a walking guide in the UK. This year I helped as a Tour Manager for a Sahara Trek in Morocco.
What was your first Different Travel trip? What made it special?
The first UK trip was as a walking guide along the Jurassic Coast. It is great helping others with their charity fund raising walks. Many people have a ‘not sure I can do this’ moment somewhere along the way and it’s a privilege to be alongside to help them through this.
What has been your most memorable Different Travel adventure to date?
I loved going to the Sahara. Camping out in the desert was fantastic. Marrakech was fun too!
If you could go on an adventure with three people (past or present, real or fictional) who would they be and why?
Ansel Adams, landscape photographer, Tristan Gooley, natural navigator, Robert Macfarlane, author.
These three would make me stop and really look at and explore my surroundings.
What is your ultimate dream destination?
For me it’s always more the journey than the destination. So I’d like to walk the GR10 through the Pyrenees and the Slovenian Mountain Trail.
Which Different Travel adventure appeals to you, and why?
I did enjoy the Sahara, quite fancy Iceland, the Camino de Santiago and Annapurna, but to be honest would go anywhere.
What do you love about working with Different Travel
As someone who has had reasons to fundraise myself, it’s great to play a small part in enabling other people to accomplish their goal to support organisations that mean something special to them. I really enjoy meeting everyone and sharing their adventure. That this happens in fabulous places is a real bonus!
